Parts of the Nadi area were under water as flash flooding from continual heavy rain took its toll yesterday.

The heavy rain resulted in parts of the town including the Nadi Bus Stand, Nadi Temple road, low lying areas like Korovuto settlement and the Qeleloa River bursting it’s banks.

Students were sent home earlier, markets and businesses had to close as well.

Home owners were on alert because of flash flood warning bringing movement around the township to a stop in some areas.

Korovuto residents Iokimi Sovatabua lives a stone throw away from the nearby creek which gets flooded when there is a severe heavy rain.

“I came home at around 11am and found that water had flooded the porch,” Mr Sovatabua said.

“We had to take all our kitchen utensils and bring it inside the house.”

When Fiji Sun visited the area the 52-year-old was indoor with his five children taking cover from the cold.

“We are just observant at this moment and just are aware to make sure we can escape from here if water continues to rise,” he said.

“I am just mindful of my kids who are inside the house and making sure they are safe as my wife is at work right now.”

“This kind of weather was normal to him but as the rain continues to pour, he only hopes it does not flood the inside of his house just like it did during TC Winston.”
