I feel very privileged, humbled and delighted to be nominated in this category, says Niven Maharaj.
Mr Maharaj, who is currently the resort manager for Plantation Island Resort, is one of the finalists for the Emerging Tourism Leaders category in this year’s ANZ Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards.
“This nomination means a great deal for me. It’s a boost for my career that would certainly help me in achieving my future goals,” he said.
Mr Maharaj began his career in the tourism industry in 2004 after completing his certificate in hospitality management.
“I did my six months practical at Wananavu Beach Resort and achieved my diploma in Hotel Management from FNU.
“My first employment was lecturing at NZPTC in hospitality supervision, later to advance my career, I took a position as food and beverage supervisor for the Tanoa Plaza Hotel in Suva.”
In 2008, he was offered the position of duty manager at Plantation Island Resort and in 2010 the newly-created position of Food and Beverage co-coordinator.
“In 2011, I was asked to tackle another newly-created position of Customer Care Manager. In 2012, I was promoted to the position of Assistant Resort Manager.
“This role required me to carry out responsibilities which included project management and overseeing the management of various departments within the resort.
“In my career path, I have acquired lots of experiences in management skills, responsibilities and leadership.
“I would like to thank the management, owners and directors of Plantation Island Resort for developing me, having confidence in me and providing me with the support required to improve every year.”
