Fiji Sun managing editor – Production Maraia Vula is part of a workshop in Sydney, Australia, conducted by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and New Zealand Companies Office.

The Pacific Business Registries Workshop is aimed at Pacific Island countries.

These are the  countries that are undertaking or planning to undertake reforms of their business laws and registries, including secured transactions (or personal property securities) and business registries.

Ms Vula is a University of the South Pacific BCom graduate who started at the Fiji Sun as a business journalist before moving into key editing roles.

The workshop is being held at the ADB Pacific liaison and co-ordination office.

This will be the fifth such workshop, following those held in 2008, 2011, 2013 and 2015.

The Pacific workshop will bring together registrars, senior government officials, private sector representatives, and development partners, and will provide a forum to discuss issues confronting the registry community.

The events will provide opportunities to showcase recent reforms meet other registrars and support the ongoing collaboration between members.

Other Fijians are also attending with Ms Vula are acting Registrar of Companies Ashley Sharma, Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation vice president of Women Entrepreneurs and Business Council Eseta Nadakuitavuki and PACNEWS journalist Pita Ligaiula.
