Suli Hits Big Time
His songs like Vosa Dodomo, Vakanannu, Adi Lusi, and Rui Bikai have become local hits in the local radio stations.
Suliasi Uluilakeba 27, has become a household name for his incredibly amazing voice that has earned a name for himself in the local music scene.
Suli was raised in kadavu and later moved to Navua to settle there with his family. His interest in music came about after he injured himself while playing rugby at 21.
“So after my injury I stayed home and so I wasn’t doing alot of things and so my interest in music started from there
He started singing and met up with Sitiveni Lakolako from a local band in 2014 who would teach him the tricks and art of music.
“I then joined bands like Waikataka Vure, Moli Koula, and Drodrolagi kei Nautosolo.
He recently became a solo artist last October and started releasing singles that have become popular. His featured with artist like Bill Cokanauto, Marika Loa, and the band Makare.
“I normally perform in Resorts, and invited events like weddings and birthdays,” said Suli.
The challenges he faces is doing music as a full time career and trying to make a living from his music. His genre include Vude, jazz, blues, reggae, and country.
Two of his hit songs, “Vakanananu” and “Vosa Dodomo” will be up for nomination for this year’s Fiji Performing Rights Association Music Awards that will be held in May.
His advice to other artist out there is to never lose the passion to do music. Suli attributes his success to his family, friends, and fans around Fiji.
“I’m currently working on my first solo album that is coming out later this year,” he said.
Suli is currently part of the band Paradise Roots based in Suva.
