The managing director Goundar Shipping Limited (GSL) George Goundar told the Fiji Sun yesterday.

“GSL only believes in improving our service to the travelling public.”

The company’s stated vision is “to continuously improve the island coastal travel experience in Fiji through excellence in service and innovation”. It values safety, environmental responsibility, integrity and service.

The Fiji Sun asked Mr Goundar on whether there was competition at the Taveuni/Natuvu route.

He said when GSL started on the new route; the Lomaiviti Princess IV was specifically assigned for it and had offered free tickets for a week to passengers.

According to Mr Goundar that it is over and is now charging $10 to Labasa and $5 to Savusavu.

Currently the route is also served by Grace Prasad Shipping & Landlords.

Before Lomaiviti Princess IV was assigned to serve this route, it was involved in transporting building materials to islands affected by Tropical cyclone Winston.

In regard to the company’s floating dock, he said they were looking at all options and was working with the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF).

He had confirmed in an earlier interview that it would be at Levuka, Ovalau.

When launching the Lomaiviti Princess III Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama announced that the company would construct a 5,000 ton floating dock. He said that this was a huge investment for the shipping industry and would be the first dock of its kind in Fiji.
