Adi Cakobau School and Lelean Memorial defended their titles in the 2017 Triple N Zone competition at the ANZ Stadium in Suva yesterday.

The girls from Sawani who were the runners up in the 2016 Coca-Cola Games showed another spectacular performance. To prove their class, the girls made a clean sweep in the 4x400metres and 4×100 relay events.

ACS won the overall girls division with 41 gold,29 silver and six bronze medals, Lomaivuna High second (2, 2, 3), LMS  third (1, 2, 2) and Dilkusha High School  fourth (1, 0, 3).

ACS dominated all the grades starting from the sub junior where they collected 10 gold, five silver and two bronze medals. They also won the junior grade  (10, 9, 3), intermediate  (9, 9) and senior (10, 6, 1).

In the boys division LMS proved too strong  with 23 gold, 15 silver and 12 bronze medals, Lomaivuna High second (6, 3, 4), Naitasiri Secondary third  (6, 2, 6) while Sila Central High School finished fourth  (2, 2, 2).

The boys from Davuilevu clean sweep all the grades winning three gold, two silver and one bronze medals in the sub junior junior  (6, 5, 1), intermediate (8, 3,7) , senior (6, 5, 3).

Zone Coordinator Alifereti Tawake believes the challenge in this year’s Coca-Cola Games will be tough since the Western schools have access to the new facility at Churchill Park.

“We are impressed with the performance, better than last year,” Tawake said.

“Our athletes are heading into the right path.”

The 2017 Coca-Cola Games will be at the ANZ Stadium on April 20-22.
