The Jean-Michel Cousteau rugby team from Vanua Levu are looking forward to play in the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s tournament at the ANZ Stadium in Suva next week.

The Savusavu-based side participated in the biggest local 7s tournament for six years but could not take part last year due to the devastation caused by Tropical Cyclone Winston.

Team manager Frank Chong said it would be a great opportunity for the players to get exposure and play against some top teams.

“Training has been on track for over a month now for the 15 young players most of whom will be participating for the first time in Viti Levu.

“We are expecting a very tough competition since they had been playing in most of the 7s tournaments but we will still give our best,” he said

Chong was grateful to have introduced most of the players to the sport since most of them are unemployed.

“One of our players Lino Saunitoga has been participating in the Marist 7s for the past six years and was included in the national training squad.

“We have a very young team and we want to engage them in rugby to keep them active.

“I would like to thank our major sponsor Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort for their endless support and also I would like to request for the supporters all over Viti Levu to come out in numbers to support our team,” Chong added.
