The Fiji Sports Journalists Association elected new committee members at the Fiji Sun boardroom in Walu Bay, Suva yesterday.

Newly elected president Maikeli Seru is hopeful the new committee together with association members will bring positive changes to benefit the members in the long run.

“This initiative is a positive way forward for the local sports journalist as we will try to lift the standard of reporting in the country and strengthening relationship with sporting federations.

“The main focus now is for the association to work closely with Oceania National Olympic Committees (ONOC) to register with International Sports Press that will allow us to send young reporters for training abroad,” Seru said.

“The meeting is a first step and from here I will work with the committee for future plans for the association.”

Other benefits of being a member of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) is establishing good network with sports journalists around the globe as we build up for 2018 Commonwealth Games and 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
