The Wardens women’s rugby team aim to make a mark at the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s at the ANZ Stadium next week.

Coached by former national sevens rep Lemeki Koroi, the team was formed before in the Marist tournament last year.

“Preparation is well underway and we have a bunch of talented and dedicated group of women who are committed to training because of their love for the game,” team manageress Losalini Bolatagici said.

“The team was formed before Marist tournament last year meaning we have had only two outings including our participation at the Coral Coast 7s in January.

“While we finished as the finalist in the Marist 7s tournament last year, the team then comprised players not employed by the Fiji Corrections  Service

“We took ownership of the team this year and we marched into the Coral Coast 7s with a group of inexperienced ruggers yet committed to the sport.

“Many had their first taste of rugby then and we lost in the final of the Plate competition.

“Still that was an achievement of us as we continue look of areas of growth in the sport.

“We are glad to be getting more game time with the help of Marist Seahawks and the Qauia team and we now have a few experienced players joining the side.

“The women are looking forward to the tournament and they know the task ahead is not easy.

“They will go out there and give it their all. Giving their best is all that matters.”
