Football has grown from strength to strength and is steadily becoming a favourite sport for young, old, men and women alike.

The Minister for Health and Medical Services Rosy Akbar made the comment during the Fiji Football Awards Night last night in Suva.

“Sports is a great platform to identify talented athletes out there who otherwise may not have had the opportunity to develop their God-given talent,”she said.

“It is through sports that Fiji’s profile has been brought to an international audience. We are increasingly boosting our profile in international sport by attracting major sporting events to Fiji.”

Akbar also encourages Fijians to participate more in physical activities to reduce the risk of Non Communicable Diseases (NCD).

“There’s strong evidence that taking part in physical activity and sports improves our health.

“We must strive for excellence. I know for a fact being an avid football fan that we certainly have the raw talent.”
