Family, friends, and colleagues gathered to bid farewell to the late Viliame Jonathon Gonelevu yesterday.

The funeral of the former vice-president of the Methodist Church of Fiji and Rotuma was held at the Burebasaga Methodist Church in Rewa.

Speaking at the eulogy, close friend Emitai Boladuadua talked about the good old times with Mr Gonelevu and described him as having a great sense of humour and great character.

The service was led by former President of the Methodist church of Fiji, Reverened Laisiasa Ratabacaca. Mr Gonelevu was buried at the old traditional chiefly cemetery in Burebasaga.

Originally from Vanuavou, Vaturova, Savusavu, Mr Gonelevu was a former teacher at Lelean Memorial School, and eventually served as Methodist Church vice-president from 1987 to 1988.

He retired in December 2011.

He also served as a politician in the Qarase-led government and also worked on various boards including the University of the South Pacific and the Pacific Theological College.

Mr Gonelevu is survived by his wife, Ro Elenoa Gonelevu, five children and 12 grandchildren. He was 75-years-old.
