One Smart Star Brings In Star Phone App
A directory-like app, Star Phone, has been launched in the country by an Israeli-based company.
The company, One Smart Star, has been working on the application in Fiji for the past few months.
It provides visual interactive voice response service for short numbers (a star, and four digits, example *1234).
One Smart Star manager Akuila Qumi said the app was used by 190 operators in the world.
“The app is being used in 75 countries and Fiji is the 76th country,” Mr Qumi said.
“It is like a directory. It has a GPS and also right now we’re a using IVR system.
“Basically we extract information from a company’s website and download it on the IVR, so it makes it easy for people to gather information.”
And he said they were working together with Vodafone and Digicel in getting companies star number onto the app.
Mr Qumi said they were targeting businesses especially micro businesses because of the gap between them and big businesses.
“$100 is the fee for the first 100 businesses to register and fees thereafter is still not being confirmed,” he said.
The app was launched in 2005 and Fiji is its franchise for the Pacific, he added.
