A mother is still hoping for the return of her three-year-old girl.

The girl, Meme Bakeware, along with the boat’s captain are still missing at sea after a fibreglass boat capsized boat near Makogai Island on Sunday morning.

Inconsolable Rosie Bakeware, of Vagadaci Village on Ovalau Island, burst into tears while narrating her story of the incident to the Fiji Sun.

She was travelling with her three children, Hadassah Bakeware, 7, Gideon Bakeware, 5, and Meme Bakeware, 3, to meet her husband who is working in Makogai Island.

“We left in the morning to go and meet him with the other commuters and attend church service,” Ms Bakeware said.

“My kids and I were with the captain, his wife and child, and two other children travelling along the Makogai passage which at times is not safe to travel through.

“When the boat capsized, we all were badly injured even my kids had bruises.

“All of us were found but unfortunately my youngest daughter and the boat’s captain were not found.

“I just pray that my daughter is safe and be found soon.”

She has been in the Levuka Hospital since Sunday but is in a stable condition.

Police spokesperson, Ana Naisoro confirmed all seven found were safe but injured.

“The investigation and search are still going on to locate the boat captain and the little girl,” she said.

“Seven people have been found and Fiji Navy along with nearby resorts is assisting us with search services of the girl and boat captain.”

Anyone with information is requested to call the Fiji Police on 3318529.
