Prolific striker Roy Krishna will captain the Vodafone Fijian national football team that has been told to create a new era for the sport in the country against the All Whites at Churchill Park, Lautoka tomorrow.

Coach Christophe Gamel told the 20 players after their selection last night at the Fiji Football Academy in Ba that a new book needed to be written for Fiji Football.

Gamel said he now classed himself as a Fijian and wanted to see Fiji football move away to becoming a force to be reckoned with.

“I have come to love this country and its people and want you, the team to do your best for everyone,”Gamel said.

While announcing the team Gamel has turn to three veteran players to provide the backup for Krishna and stabilise the team with their experience. Goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau, defender Taniela Waqa and striker Osea Vakatalesau were named as vice-captains.

Gamel also introduced Tasman United mid-fielder James Hoyt into the team.

He is the son of former Lautoka, Ba and national striker Steven Mudu Hoyt. Tasman United is part of the New Zealand League and Hoyt was extremely proud to be here to represent his country.

Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel made a passionate plea to the players to play with their hearts for the Vanua and the people of Fiji against the All Whites in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

Patel said there should be nothing less than that when the players take the field tomorrow.
