The people of Fulaga are thanking the South Island Shipping for the services they are offering them.

Sakilau Vitivou from Muanicake village said for years they had voiced their concerns on the inconsistency of shipping services to the island.

With the current Government leadership, he said the ships had a regular timetable for their visits.

“I must thank the South Island Shipping for honouring their timetable and they had brought relief to the community,” he said.

In the past he said they could be without sugar for months but now that was history.

He said the problems they were facing were also experienced in Kabara, Ogea, Vatoa and Ono-i-lau.

These islands he said were in the Lower Southern Lau and had been classed as unprofitable routes by shipowners.

The shipping services to the islands he said was now consistent with Government’s Shipping Franchise Scheme.
