The people of Ogea are getting good money from the sale of lobsters and fish to a company in Suva.

This was confirmed to the Fiji Sun by the island spokesman Ledua Finau.

He said the islanders catch lobsters and fish when the ship serving the island left Suva.

“We have our contact from Suva who will inform us when the ship is leaving Suva and when will it arrive at the village,” Mr Finau said.

He said the people of Kabara, Ogea and Vatoa were doing the same thing.

The Liahona he said visited these islands in the past two weeks and carried loads of lobsters and fish to the customers in Suva.

He said all these islands too were selling coconut fibre (magimagi) and kava bowl (tanoa).

Speaking to one of the woodcarvers on Kabara Island who wanted to remain anonymous he said their forefathers were wood carvers and had passed in the skill to the younger generation.

He said they sometimes received orders from hotels but in most cases they just sent them to relatives in Suva to sell.
