The 4th Martintar 7s tournament was officially launched at the Cawa Methodist Church Hall in Namaka, Nadi last Saturday.

The launch was done by Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre co-ordinator Shamima Ali who indicated that violence against women is a criminal offence and the need for men to take the matter seriously.

“Violence against women, girls and children has a tremendous negative impact on women’s education, growth, freedom and many other areas of development,” she said.

The FWCC is the major sponsor of this year’s Martintar 7s and she handed $5500 cheque to support the tournament.

“This is one of the strategies that we are using and this is a good way we can make a clean road into eliminating violence against women. So we have been supporting rugby and forming these partnerships.”

Martintar 7s official Biu Waqaniburotu said teams like defending Fiji Bitter Marist 7s champions Tabadamu will also feature in the competition as well as Coral Coast 7s champions First Light Taveuni.

“Already over 48 teams have been registered with us and more teams are still coming but we have told them that registration has been closed.

“We also feature young team from Macuata and other places. We will also feature our women’s team to boost the competition.” he said.
