The Vodafone Fijian 7s players are being reminded to be fully aware of their responsibilities ahead of this weekend’s Hong Kong 7s tournament.

Speaking to SUNsports yesterday, head coach Gareth Baber said the support from fans and the nation is one of their key mechanisms to a positive performance.

“Ever since we arrived in Hong Kong last week there is a huge amount of fans coming out to watch us during training, the Fijian community has been with us wherever we go but in Hong Kong it’s different,” Baber said.

“I know support is a big mechanism for us in terms of moving forward, the players know their responsibilities of representing Fiji and they will play their hearts out this weekend.

“Having the community behind them is a really big help.”

Baber said they just need to stick together and work hard towards defending the Hong Kong 7s title.

The team had their first scrimmaging session against Hong Kong last Saturday and yesterday had their second session with Scotland where the coach worked on polishing certain key areas.

“We are progressing well in our game. For our scrimmaging session we polished our tackling techniques, organisational defence and kick-offs. These were the three main areas we tried to look at,” Baber added.

Meanwhile, the players are injury free and looking forward to an exciting weekend.
