Families in the province of Bua whose homes were flattened by severe Tropical Cyclone Winston last year will have their homes rebuilt in a programme starting  next Tuesday.

This will be the first assistance through the Help for Homes Initiative programme in the area since the cyclone last February.

Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said 6000 recipients fall under the third and final phase of the programme.

$25 million has been set aside for the final phase.

$88m was allocated for the first phase which has assisted 23,000 recipients.

Another 3800 recipients benefitted from the $20m in the second phase.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said Government found some savings within the Head 50 of the Miscellaneous Services in the National Budget and these funds would take care of those who were left out in the first and second phase initiative.

Acting Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Rosy Akbar said parts of Tavua, Ba, Lautoka, the Yasawa group, Cakaudrove and Bua will also be assisted under this programme.

She said villages in Cakaudrove are part of the final phase.

For families living in affected areas and who had already started rebuilding their homes, they are eligible for a refund.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said a refund scheme was available, but the recipients needed to ensure that they fill a refund form available at the Ministry of Women Children, and Poverty Alleviation and produce valid invoices and receipts post TC Winston.

Hardware companies for the initiative include:

Kasabias Hardware

Refrigeration Electrical

Dayals Hardware

Rakiraki Hardware
