Experience is one thing Aliti Tuvu hopes to gain when she makes her debut on the international scene in the ITTF Oceania Para Championships at the Vodafone Arena on April 13.

The 34-year-old from Vatulele, who is a paraplegic, started playing table tennis a year ago and has never looked back.

Competing with other players from around the region Tuvu said was the best because she was excited to learn more of the sport that gave an opportunity to express herself.

“This is my first time playing in an international tournament and I am really happy that I have been given this opportunity to do so,” Tuvu said.

“This was always my dream to be involved in something important like this despite my disability and I have the chance to do this and get better.

“I want to get better at this sport because I love playing it and I thought I would never be able to take up a sport because of my condition but that is the good thing about table tennis.

“Anyone can play table tennis and it is a very easy game to get used to and get the hang of it and if I want to improve and grow in this sport, learning from experts is what I have to do.

“Watching how they move and their technique is what I want to learn how to do so I am very excited.”

The ITTF Oceania Para Championships will be played from April 13-16.
