Today is Palm Sunday! Christian churches around the country will be celebrating the event as it marks the first day of Holy Week and the most solemn time in the Christian calendar.

Palm Sunday derived its name from palm branches that people laid down in Jesus path as he rode into Jerusalem on the donkey.

This event was accounted by the Gospel writers after it was prophesied in the Old Testament that people would recognise the Messiah when he rode into the city, and they would then lay palms at his feet.

The palm branch is a symbol of peace and victory and in Biblical times were often thrown before the feet of a conquering hero in homage.

As Christians move into the Holy Week leading right to Easter, we should rest assured that our very existence today is only through the grace of God.

Nothing else! Ever since sin entered this world, according to traditional Christian teaching, from the Garden of Eden through Adam and Eve, mankind virtually had no hope whatsoever.

We were doomed for eternity. But it was through God’s love for mankind that changed our course altogether.

Putting His love into action – Christians believe God sent his only son Jesus Christ, who lived as a man where He preached about his Father’s Kingdom and demonstrated His great powers by performing miracles.

Although Jesus did no wrong he was rejected by the church elders and the Roman officials. This led to His arrest where He was tortured, falsely accused and crucified on Mount Calvary.

It was the shedding of His blood that washed away our sins and saw the redemption of mankind as they made peace with the Creator and was able to draw closer to Him and live a victorious life.

During the Holy Week, it’s important that Christians reflect on our life and see where we had gone wrong in life and what we need to do in order to make things right.

It’s important that Christians should show that Christ-like love by making peace with God and then move on to those who we’ve hurt or done wrong to and we seek for their forgiveness.

Also, we should have the heart to accept and forgive those that have done wrong to us as well. This is the way to go if we are to live a victorious life.
