Members of the Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) convened at the Naboro Correctional Complex yesterday morning for their Easter church service.

It marked an end to Holy Week which saw evening church services being held simultaneously in all institutions around the country to commemorate the last days before Jesus’ crucifixion.

The service for FCS was introduced last year by the Commissioner of Corrections, Commander Francis Kean.

FCS Chaplain Reverend Josefa Tikonatabua attended the church service in Labasa and Reverend Waisale Ketedromo was at the Nabua Methodist Church.

The key message was repentance based on 1 Corinthians 1: 17-29. He reminded the officers that while Easter is just a remembrance, it is important to note that Jesus died to change lives.

The message that was conveyed was that although many people had looked down on Jesus’ gruesome death, we must always look to the cross as the source of our power.
