Luke Paeni and Mulan Kamoe are the top seeds in the men and women’s categories of Tennis Fiji Easter Open Championship that gets underway at the ITF court in Lautoka today.

Paeni, a Solomon Islander and a former scholarship student at the ITF in Lautoka will face a strong challenge from Fiji’s top seed Raynal Singh.

Nadi based- Kamoe, is expecting a tough battle from Veinna Kumar and Ruby Coffin in the women’s category.

Tennis Fiji’s development officer Sachin Reddy said they expect a tough competition.

“The tournament is shaping very well as we have 84 players,” he said.

“We have players all the way from Nadi, Lautoka, Suva and also six players from Vanuatu who have been playing here for a couple of years.

“Tennis Fiji is confident that from this tournament we will be able to get many participants to represent us in future events which are in our calendar.” Reddy said the competition includes a special Under-10 category played from 8am to 10am. Other grades include; U12, U14, U16, men’s open, ladies open and veteran categories, social in single and doubles.
