The Rewa Muslim Football Association will be hosting this weekend’s 58th Vodafone sponsored- Muslim Interdistrict Championship (IDC) at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori.

Tournament organiser Mohammed Rafiq said the plan is to ensure that fans and players enjoy their time at the tournament when it starts today.

“First, admission is free,” Rafiq told SUNsports.

“‘So fans can come down, watch the games and enjoy themselves.”

The fans, Rafiq says, have all the weekend to watch the matches played by a total of 17 teams for free.

“Top guns like Ba, Lautoka and Nadi will be represented and fans can look forward to a weekend of non-stop soccer fest with all sorts of entertainments and good food to savour until the finals on Monday, which will be played around 4pm.

“Believe you me, Suva will also be represented. Nasinu and Nausori districts are drafting the biggest number of teams to compete with those from the West, Eastern and Northern teams. As always, every event hosted by the Muslim community is a non-profitable event and winners will be vying for the first prize of $700 while the first runners-up will receive $300,” he said.

Rafiq said the official opening will be done by the Minister for Industry, Trade, Tourism, Lands and Mineral Resources Faiyaz Koya.

“I’m also happy to tell you that this is the first time for Rewa to host the yearly tournament and plans are underway to make it a special one.”

Meanwhile, Nausori businessman Mohammed Riaz said he was honoured to cater for the Rewa Muslim football team’s football gears.

Defending champions Makoi, Riaz says, will come out firing this year.

“But, since we are hosting our first Muslim tournament, we will be fighting tooth and nail to win,” he added.
