Junior Benjamin caused the biggest upset when he beat No.2 seed Raynal Singh at the Tennis Fiji Easter Men’s Open Singles final in Lautoka yesterday.

Singh withdrew during the encounter when he suffered an injury and could not continue.

Benjamin took out the first set 6-0 before Singh hit back to claim the second set 6-3. They were tied 6-6 in the final set when Singh got injured.

“I’m so happy to win the final,” said the 17-year-old Benjamin.

“This is the first time I have won the men’s open singles title. I didn’t expect to win this championship but I had been training very hard.

“The final against Singh was really tough and he played well. I thank God, my parents and my school for their support.”

Benjamin beat top seed Luke Paeni in the semifinal 2-0 (6-4, 6-2) while Singh defeated Graham Mani 2-0 (6-3, 6-2). Meanwhile, women’s number one seed Mulan Kamoe won the women’s title.
