Kashmir carjacker breaks out of prison
One of the convicted Kashmir carjackers in Lautoka last year escaped from prison, says the Fiji Corrections Service.
It is believed 26-year-old Joeli Nukunawa broke out of the Korovou Prison in Suva on Sunday afternoon.
Workers at the Fiji Sun in Walu Bay heard the prison alarm go off on the said day.
The Fiji Corrections Service said Nukunawa is from Naibita, Wainibuka, in Tailevu, and was a resident of Vunimoli Settlement in Tacirua in the past.
Members of the public are urged to contact the nearest Police Station of any sighting of Nukunawa and forewarned that it is an offence to harbour escaped prisoners.
Nukunawa was convicted of one count of aggravated robbery and three counts of theft in October last year.
On the one count of aggravated robbery, he was charged with stealing Imitiaz Shaukat Ali’s vehicle, worth $115,000 during the carjacking at Kashmir in Lautoka.
