Ba Confident Of Upset Over Champions
The Locomotive Ba Rugby side is oozing with confidence. They anticipate an upset win over defending champions Navosa in the first round of the Vodafone Vanua Championship this Saturday.
Ba flanker Daniele Lawakeli believes with the preparation his side has made following the festive season, they are in good shape as they host Navosa.
“From our side we have been training well; our main aim for this game is to win, even by one point, is still a win,” Lawakeli said.
“We started preparation after the festive season and we have done the hard yards during our preparation training at the sand dunes having organised warm up matches but it will all show come Saturday,” Lawakeli said.
Lawakeli in an interview told SUNsports their key area would be the kicking.
“Our strength is our kickers, they make key options if needs be to win a game and this is one area we are working on,” he said.
“We also want to thank former Flying Fijians fly-half Seremaia Bai for having a lesson with our kickers, we were fortunate to spend a day with Bai guiding our kickers.”
Meanwhile defending champions Navosa captain Maiele Finau said they respected Ba and anticipated a tough encounter.
“Ba is a good side we have high respect for them, we met them last year and they gave us a good run, but we are also going in to win.
“We are also preparing well physically, spiritually and mentally. We have the same team from last year going in to defend our title,” Finau said.
The U20 game kicks off at 1pm followed by the senior match at 3pm at Govind Park in Ba.
