Forwards’ Worry For Northland
The Viliame Leca captained Northland Rugby side is adamant they will display a grand game against Macuata in the first round of the Skipper Cup on Saturday.
Team manager Maciu Koroi said their opponents would not be an easy team to beat because they would be playing in front of their partisan home crowd.
“We have been preparing for the Skipper Cup for the last couple of months and we are hoping to give a good game for our first game in the competition,” Koroi said.
He said Northland rugby’s main weakness currently was in the forward pack.
“That is an area we are going to work on and we will try and upgrade the strength and the power of our forwards so that we can encounter all the other teams that will be competing in the Skipper Cup competition this year,” Koroi said.
Veteran forward Sireli Ledua will lead from the front in the forward pack combining well with a few players who are originally from Tailevu, Nadi and Vatukoula.
He said one of the challenges was sponsorship.
“Especially the financial constrains that we have, we don’t have any sponsors at the moment and we are looking for it and we do hope we get sponsorship in this new season,” Koroi said.
Koroi rallied the Northland faithful to travel with them to Vanua Levu for support.
“To all the Northland supporters, we will play against Macuata this Saturday and do hope to see you there and we ask for your full support.”
Northland will travel to Labasa to face Macuata at the All Saints Secondary School ground in Labasa at 3pm on Saturday.
