Nabala Secondary School is hoping the Coca Cola Games, which starts today, will give their athletes a feel of what it is like competing at the top level.

With only 12 athletes representing the school, Coach Seru Tuidravutu said most of their athletes were new to the Coke Games and they wanted to expose them at this level at a young age.

“Some of our athletes are new here, most of them are juniors and we only have a few who have been to the Coke’s before,” Tuidravutu said.

“We are bringing in a small number of athletes compared to other schools and because of that we are not looking to win any medals.

“The main purpose and goal for us is to expose our young athletes to this level of competition and help them gain some experience.

“We are hoping that by bringing the athletes here, when we go back they will have a feeling of what to expect next year.

“There is only so much preparation we can do but the athlete themselves need to know what they are up against, they need to know how tough it is out there.

“But the athletes are excited to run out there and represent their school and we are hoping for a positive outcome by the end of the three days.”

Meanwhile, Fiji Airways will be rewarding the winners of the 100 metres for both the senior boys and girls, top female and male athlete and also the top sub junior boys and girls athletes.

Return tickets worth $8000 in airfares will be given to the winner of the blue ribbon event (both male and female categories) who will win a trip to Singapore or Hong Kong.

The top senior female and male athletes will receive a return ticket economy class to either New Zealand or Australia and the top sub-junior male and female athletes will receive a return Fiji Link ticket to anywhere around Fiji.
