Levuka Public School’s Sovaia Vusona will run in the Junior 100m for the first time in the Coca Cola Games today at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.

The 15-year-old from Qamea, Taveuni usually takes part in the long jump.

She was part of Melanesian Games last year taking part in the long jump event.

This is not her first time experience competing at this level, but, Sovaia said she was nervous about running the 100m event.

“I love long jump and I have been doing it for a while now so it is something I am used to, but, running in the 100m is new to me,” Sovaia said.

“I am very nervous but excited at the same time, I know everyone looks forward to the 100m event.

“I just want to go out there and do my best for my school and if I win a medal then that would be even better but if not, I hope to improve myself and maybe come back stronger next year.”

Also competing in the long jump and the 100m event is Abraham Vueti who cannot wait to go up against his competitors from Natabua High School.

“I have had a feel of the track and field today and I think I am ready for the Coke Games,” he said.

“I also took part in the Melanesian Games last year in the long jump so I think that has really prepared me for this competition.

“I have done the necessary training needed and the rest I leave to God.”
