Police Find Marijuana Rolls At Games
Marijuana rolls were found in some student bags at the ANZ Stadium on Thursday.
Police Chief of operations, Assistant Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu confirmed the find yesterday.
ACP Tudravu said the illicit drugs and sharp objects were confiscated during their search on Thursday.
“The investigations are still going on with the bag search of all attending the Coke Games,” he said.
“As the investigations continue we have our K9 capabilities at the grounds and are able to easily detect those carrying the substances.
“We are requesting members of the public to be mindful of the items they intend to take to the ANZ Stadium for the remainder of the Coca-Cola Games.”
Another issue they’ve found is an on-going battle between the schools. Last month, during the Suva Zone 1 athletics championships, a fight broke out.
“There was also an incident whereby a student was escorted out for allegedly trying to stir trouble with another group of students,” he said.
“We are grateful also for his teacher’s intervention as we were able to solve the issue quickly.
“We are therefore reminding parents, guardians, teachers, students and supporters that we have all bases covered so if you don’t want to be removed from the Games venue for breaching the law, then please don’t try to test the system,” ACP Tudravu said.
Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts Mahendra Reddy said all students found with drugs would be suspended.
“The ministry will undertake its own investigation as we have to stop this,” Mr Reddy said.
“The drug peddlers are deliberately targeting the young and vulnerable students.”
