The Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Education,IowaneTiko has heard from the Fiji Sun of the abuse of the school outboard motor at Matokana village, Ono-i-lau.

This report was relayed to the Fiji Sun at Matokana village by 39-year-old Lee Vuka.

Mr Tiko admitted that none from Matokana village had reported the matter to the ministry.

“We will take action from today regarding this issue,” he said.

He said none from MOE had been monitoring this.

The use of the school outboard for their personal use he said was illegal.

He said they would have a meeting and discuss this matter with his staff.

“We have to put a stop to the misuse.” Mr Tiko said he would urge other Government ministries on the island to monitor the use of fibre boat.

The donation was made for a specific purpose and it was sad that some people had used it to their own advantage.

A call was made to the school head teacher by an MOE officer for the school punt to be monitored by the teachers and not by the manager.

According to Mr Vuka the fibre boat and an outboard engine was donated by the MOE to them five years ago to take students and staff for school purpose; like school competition, staff meetings in other four villages, and also to Health Centre in Ono Levu.

Recently new school punts and an outboard engine was donated by the MOE to Doi Village School at Ono-i-lau last month.
