Player welfare is a priority for the Suva Football Association as they prepare for the Vodafone Fiji FACT which starts at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori next week.

Association’s president Ritesh Pratap is happy to witness the level of commitment from the players compared to last year.

“I have been with the team and I know,” Pratap said.

“The mentality of the players have changed and have been attending training and putting a lot of effort.

“I think this is due to the fact that we are considering player welfare a priority, making players our first priority and making sure they are well taken care of.

“We find that when players feel like they are being put first and cared for properly, they in turn try to play their best and give the best that they can.

“Most of these players are from the western division and they are away from their families so we need to take care of them and make them happy.

“If they are happy, they make the extra effort during training and during games and they become stronger as a group.”

Pratap said the players are gelling in well together.

“There are two main areas that we are focussing on and that is defence and our ability to score goals.

“We need to have good defence and a strike force.

“The challenge now for us is actually reaching that goal and level of performance.”

Suva will play their first game against Rakiraki in the opening of the Vodafone Fiji FACT tournament on Friday.
