Mother Celebrates With Surviving Son

Mother Karuna Kumar celebrated Mother’s Day last week with her 11-year-old son Rishaav Ritvik at their residence in Labasa.

He is the lone survivor of a fire incident that killed his three sisters two months ago.

Mrs Kumar said she was happy to celebrate Mother’s Day with her son but she really missed her three daughters.

“I really miss my daughters everyday and it has left a void in my heart but I am blessed that my son has been released from the hospital and is here with me today,” she said.

Mr Rivitik said he was thankful to the Lord for his life and the life of his parents, especially to his mother as they celebrated Mother’s Day.

“I am however thankful to God for my life and for my parents life especially my mother as we mark Mother’s Day today,” he said.

He spoke for the first time on the fire incident.

The -11-year-old said on that fateful day they had just returned from school, had dinner and then two of his  sisters 13-year-old Kajal,9-year-old  Kareena did their revision while 6-year-old Isha drew

He said by 7pm they had slept in their parents’ room on their King sized bed. The bed was close to the bedroom window.

His father Rajesh Kumar said they were planning to build their new home at a block sighted at Low-cost Housing in Labasa.

“We cannot go back to our old home as it brings back a lot of memories and it is too much to bear,” Mr Kumar said.

“I am also appealing to the public for financial assistance to help me build my house.”

They are currently being house by their family close to Namoli Village in Labasa.
