Two accounting curriculum officers from Fiji will attend the accounting conference in Australia in August funded by the Certified Practising Accountants (CPA) Australia.

This was confirmed by the Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts Mahendra Reddy yesterday.

CPA Australia is one of the world’s largest accounting bodies with a global membership of more than 160,000 members working in 118 countries around the world, with more than 25,000 members working in senior leadership position.

Mr Reddy said CPA had volunteered to help upgrade their staff in the Curriculum Section for accounting by funding them to attend technical workshops and conferences in Australia.

“They will send their expert professors to review our accounting curriculum for Year 12 and Year 13 to ensure that it is internationally benchmarked with all costs funded by the CPA,” Mr Reddy said.

“It’s a major upgrade and I want to thank CPA for their assistance and we look forward in working with them to ensure our accounting curriculum is internationally-recognised.

“We need to understand that our curriculum which is the core of quality education is equivalent to international competitor countries.

“CPA is internationally-known as a professional accounting body and all accountants throughout the world look forward to either becoming a member of CPA Australia or the New Zealand one.

“We are honoured to have CPA come forward and willing to review our programme and develop the curriculum.”

He said they continuously reviewed their curriculum by experts based at The University of the South Pacific and the Fiji National University.

“But when we get the opportunity to get foreign experts or professional bodies then we will definitely take on that opportunity,” Mr Reddy said.
