The Macuata rugby officials are working hard on putting together a strong team to take on Malolo in the third round of the Skipper Cup competition at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka on Saturday.

The lone Northern side have yet to register a win in the competition.

Speaking to SUNsports on Monday, Macuata assistant coach Milio Toganivalu said they need to put a proper structure in place and to be followed by officials in getting the team together to prepare for big games.

“Right now we don’t have all our players in for training,” he said.

“Some players are coming in today because they were away in Viti Levu or other parts of Vanua Levu.

“They had left camp to be with their families and it is not easy to look after a large number of players.”

Toganivalu said once a sound policy is in place it would reflect in the results of their games.

“I was once the Macuata rugby captain and I know what winning is like and the impact it has on the players as they perform to the best of their ability.”

The former Army hooker said with a winning form they are going to bring in the much-needed revenue through gate takings and sponsorships. This in return will help the union look after the player’s welfare

“Our philosophy is if players are happy, they’ll make us happy; we feel if they are not happy about anything then they are not expected to make us happy,” he added.
