The Ministry of Youth and Sports, through well drafted policies and legislation, provides platforms for youth and sports development. It strives to reach out to youths in the remotest and unreached places all over Fiji.

Minister Laisenia Tuitubou last week visited several youth clubs in the Central and Western Divisions last week and is in Koro Island this week.

He also travelled to Tubarua Village on horseback, the last village of Naitasiri in the interior of the province.

“The youths in these parts of Viti Levu have no access to the services available for them and it’s only necessary that we reach out to them,” Mr Tuitubou said.

“These visits, apart from creating awareness of Government services, are also about hearing the needs and the demands of the young population.”

Tubarua villagers had a talanoa session with the Youth and Sports Minister and “youths were happy about the golden opportunity to be able to brief and update the Minister of their development plans and aspirations for them and the community.”

According to their youth president, Samuela Bainivalu: “The youths have constructed the community footpath and bought cabbage seedlings for the income generating projects.”

“They have harvested their cabbages and money earned is being used to buy more seedlings and we have opened a bank account with the rest of the monies,” Mr Bainivalu said.

He also informed the minister “that the youths were elated over his visit to their village.”

Village headman Petero Udonu said: “They are grateful towards Government for attending to the needs of the young people.”
