Any complaint against Police officers can be made at the Police headquarters, says Police spokesperson, Ana Naisoro.

“We have a process whereby those who have issues about the conduct of any of our officers can lodge a complaint with our Internal Affairs Unit,” Ms Naisoro said.

She was responding to a video that was posted on social media concerning an alleged incident at the Wainadoi Community Post. A driver was held at the Community Post after he was taken in for speeding.

“The complainant in this case is welcome to do so at our headquarters,” Ms Naisoro said.

“This unit will conduct a thorough investigation to ascertain the claims against the officer.”

The complainant who posted the video on a Facebook forum, Mohammed Gani, said: “We were going towards Nadi and at Wainadoi near the Police Post we were stopped by a Police officer who told us that we were speeding.”

Mr Gani claimed he was driving at 68 km per hour, however, the officer said it was 78km/h.

“He took my driver’s licence, after that he hid inside the Police Post and started placing the radar on oncoming vehicles.

“Then my son and I took pictures of him hiding inside,” Mr Gani claimed.

“Then he grabbed my son by his tee-shirt and was about to punch him and was grabbing his mobile when I took the video, then he stopped.”

But the video and photos however, showed no signs of aggressiveness from the officer.
