Rewa veteran Usaia Tadu, 36, plays a key role in the team.

And the ‘Delta Tigers’ hopes his experience, guidance and impact will win them the Vodafone Fiji FACT after six years as they go into the Vodafone Fiji FACT tournament today.

Tadu is also the team’s talatala (chaplain) and helps guide the players in the right direction ahead of the tournament which kicks off today at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori.

The Delaidamanu, Naitasiri native has changed his life around, a born again Christian after being sentenced to prison for three and a half years in 2012 for robbery with violence.

Coach Marika Rodu, who has played alongside him, said Tadu has had a positive impact on the team.

“He has changed a lot and has become a role model to the younger players in the team,” Rodu said.

“I did not look at what he had done in the past, I only focused on who he is as a person and a player now. He needs to be given a second chance and get back into society. He is spreading the word of God now and he plays a double role as a player and as the talatala.

“He has pushed the boys in the right direction.”
