For 19-year- old Tulia Levunia, the chance to highlight education for underprivileged students was something she could not turn down.

She is one of the six contestants in next month’s Farmers Carnival to be held in Lautoka. She represents the Drasa sector.

With many of her nearby communities facing a similar situation, she decided to take this topic to the one week celebration.

“I decided to take part because it was for charity and the need to help underprivileged kids get educated was the main reason I joined,” she said.

The Fiji National University student has completed a programme in Office Administration, Food and Beverage.

“This is just the beginning of my journey and I know I have a lot to learn and I will take each experience as a learning platform,” said Ms Levunia.

She hails from Matawailevu in Ra and this is the first time she is part of such a carnival. She resides in Matawalu Village, Lautoka.

“Parents and students should make use of the free education that the Ministry of Education is giving.

“We need students to take advantage of free education given by Government. So if children get educated, they will become brighter and their future will be better,” she said.

The eldest of five siblings said: “This will be a great opportunity for me to upgrade my public speaking skills and also to advocate on the need for underprivileged children to be educated.

The carnival will be held from June 2 to 11.
