The Waya Levu, Yasawa native Kalione Nasoko is one of the three nominees for the World Rugby Sevens Rookie of the Year award.

Nasoko, 26, made his debut for Fiji at the Dubai 7s tournament last year and played an instrumental role during the Hong Kong 7s final in April where he scored twice to earn him the player of the final award.

According to World Rugby report the winner will be announced following the London 7s final at Twickenham this weekend.

“Argentina’s Matias Osadczuk, Fiji’s Kalione Nasoko and New Zealand’s Vilimoni Koroi all impressed in their debut year and the winner will be announced at the awards ceremony that follows the tournament on Sunday evening in Twickenham.”

Baber happy with new players

As the 2016/2017 series concludes in London this weekend Vodafone Fijian 7s head coach Gareth Baber was impressed with the new players performance this season. The young players will be given the opportunity in the final line up for this week’s London 7s which starts tomorrow night.

“Expect the new and young players playing this weekend. They have been impressive with Kunavula injured ,we obviously will give chance to the young players to showcase their talents.

“We have been working hard on improving our game especially on individual play and our focus is to do Fiji proud,” Baber added.

Baber will name is 13th men later tonight. Fiji plays their first game against Canada tomorrow night at 8:30pm, Japan at 11:36pm and then plays New Zealand at 3:04am Sunday morning.
