Lautoka recorded the biggest win of the Vodafone Fiji FACT after thrashing Rakiraki 10-1 at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori yesterday.

What happened: The Blues got off to a good start with Siotama Kubu scoring the first goal in the 3rd minute followed by another goal two minutes later by Mohammed Shazil, 2-0.

Rakiraki tried hard to make inroads but were shut down by a solid Lautoka defence.

In the 39th minute, Kubu got his second goal catching the Rakiraki goalkeeper Saimoni Nabogi off guard to extend Lautoka’s lead, 3-0.

Four minutes later, Navneel Nand scored another goal with Kubu scoring a hat-trick a minute later, 5-0.

Rakiraki failed to contest for the ball and allowed Lautoka too many possessions. Zibraaz Shahib took advantage of an opportunity to score the sixth goal while Nand got his second.

Halftime: Lautoka 7-0 Rakiraki

Rakiraki looked more settled with an organised defence. They made Lautoka work hard for the ball. Shanal Hussein got one back for Rakiraki with a beautiful goal inside the box, 7-1. Jone Vono extended Lautoka’s lead 8-1 while Kolinio Sivoki ended the game with two more goals, 10-1.

Big play: The crowd went wild for Rakiraki as Shanal Hussein scored the lone goal for the newcomers.

Comments: Rakiraki coach Pragdeesh Gounder said; “The game was really bad looking at the scoreline. But the boys are all new to this tournament so this is a good learning experience for them. We will just concentrate on the Vodafone Premier League.”

Lautoka coach Kamal Swami said;

“We came in this tournament to develop a few players, we did not come here to win. We spent more money on preparations than the prize-money at stake. Our main focus is the Vodafone Premier League.

“The new boys did well and they will slowly make their way into the first lineup.”
