Fiji’s Eileen Cikamatana is one of the 11 athletes from the Oceania Weightlifting Institute who have been invited to compete in the French National Championship on June 10-11.

The 17-year-old will be competing in Mont De Marsan.

Weightlifting Fiji president Atma Maharaj said the invitational will be a good build-up for the 2018 Commonwealth Games where Cikamatana is a potential gold medallist.

“The upcoming competitions are very important for Eileen and Fiji,” Maharaj said.

“They will also serve as preparation for the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast in April next year where she will be in contention for a gold medal.

Eileen at 17 is touted as a potential medallist for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. With the support of Fiji National Sports Commission, Fiji Government, FASANOC, Olympic Solidarity, Oceania Weightlifting Institute, Eileen is poised for more successes.”

The other athletes who will join Cikamatana in France are Taretiita Taboroua, Toua Udia, Luisa Peters. Elson Brechtefeld, Thelma Toua, David Katoatau, Dika Toua, Morea Baru, Jessica Adjan and Steven Kari.

Cikamatana will also be training in Rome before heading to Japan to compete in the 90kg weight category in the World Junior Championship in Tokyo on June 23.
