The LPG tanker Maea arrived and anchored off Lami Bay on Monday, June 08.

Speaking to the Fiji Sun the boarding officer Neptune Pacific Line, Viliame Marseu said the LPG tanker would be offloading 300 tons of gas for Fiji Gas.

Meanwhile the container vessel Maipo River is still unloading clinker off Lami Bay for Pacific Cement Limited PCL).

The vessel has been here for over a month.

In an earlier interview with PCL spokesman Sowani Tuidrola he said the vessel was suppose to be there just for seven days.

After seven days they were paying a penalty fee of $11,000 per day fine to the owners of the vessel.

He said they were facing difficulties beyond their control. Mr Tuidrola said they were facing these problems because unloading was done at anchorage and not at Suva Port.

In reality he said while they wanted the unloading to be quick, it would all depend on the barge and its crew and the truck drivers. Unloading he said could not be done when there is rain and also at low tide.

The barge he said could only work on fine weather and whenever the sea is rough it would also stop as it could be damaged during the unloading at the anchorage. When contacted the agents Carpenters Shipping supervisor Kali Kotobalavu said the Maipo River had been in the country for over a month.
