Setareki Bituniyata is the latest player to take up a rugby contract in France.

The Vodafone Fijian 7s squad member confirmed yesterday he has signed a one year contract with Rugby Club Massy Essonne which features in the Pro D2- the second tier of the France Rugby Union.

“They offered me a one year contract and the money is good,” he said.

“This is a good chance for me because both my parents have died. I believe this is a great opportunity for me to grab in order to support my two other siblings.”

The Toga, Naqalimari, Navosa native said that the club approached him while they were playing in Europe during the London 7s.

“My long-time aim is to get a contract with the Top 14 club after one year. I really want to play in the Top 14 competition in the world,” he added.

“The off-season training is scheduled to begin next month. For me I think it’s good but I will avail myself when Fiji needs me to be part of the Vodafone Fijian 7s team.

Bituniyata is the nephew of former national 7s rep and Olympian Semi Kunatani.

Nasilasila delays move

Meanwhile, national rep Amenoni Nasilasila also confirmed he has received offers to play overseas.

“At the moment I don’t want to play overseas, maybe later, as I have other things in mind,” he said.

“I am looking at taking part in the Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast and the Rugby World Cup Sevens next year,” Nasilasila said.

He confirmed clubs from the United States have approached him but he declined the offer.

Nasilasila has played 92 games, scored 30 tries and recorded 248 points in the World Sevens Series.
