The was hailed a success with more events expected in the future.

Event organiser Cain Norquay of the Lifestyle and Leisure Vineyard of Sydney in Australia said they will include mountain biking in their next tour.

Norquay now has sweet fond memories of Fiji following the Australian cyclist’s coming to Fiji as part of his training camp.

The week-long event was held from June 7 – 13 where the 10 cyclists visited cultural areas in Fiji and enjoyed the sports as well.

“I saw the opportunity for these guys to come out and be very special. I have also seen the real culture, this is the real tour with the Fijians,” Norquay said.

“Next we are looking at bringing a group of 25 every six months and it will cost about $5000 per head.”

Norquay thanked their local sponsor FIJI Water.

“We were supported by few different companies.  FIJI Water came on board and a nutrition company and we are thankful to them.

Next year we are having some new sponsors coming on board. The locals can also be part of it,” he added.

Enthusiastic bike rider Sonia Moss of Paramatta was accompanied by her two daughters who loved the event.

“It was pretty exciting coming over here more so I was a little bit nervous because the roads were not quiet as good but they are no worse than what we cycle on,” she said.

“It’s been a really good challenge for us especially for my daughter who is 13.  Last week she rode a 107 kilometres here and then she backed up and has done another 50 this week.

Moss has been cycling for about two and a half years in Australia.

“I have two daughters and it’s more like a family event as our family are all cyclists.

We go together and we cycle together and we never leave anyone behind,” she said.
