Rohini Lata is a vision of hope for many solo mothers.

Her husband went missing at sea eight years ago and at one point in her lifetime, became depressed.

However, the 52-year-old never lost hope and has forged on for the sake of her three children.

You will find Ms Lata at the 2017 National Women’s Expo at the Vodafone Arena, Suva. She is one of the 500 who showcased her unique hobby and talent.

This is part of her story.

“My children and I never lost hope and pray every day that he will return home someday,” M Lata said.

“Although we know he might never come back and we accept what has happened, my children and I had to sacrifice a lot of things in my life as we tried very hard to get up on our feet again.

“My husband was the only sole bread winner but after he went missing, I had to start my own small business from home, making crochet items to be sold at the market and neighbourhood so I could cater for my children and their needs.

“Life was not easy for us but I am very happy that my family and I stood together as we overcame a lot in life.

“Even though my in-laws never supported us, we worked hard to cater for everything as best as we could.”

Meanwhile, Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Veena Bhatnagar who toured the event yesterday said: “I encourage the designers to continue exploring their imaginations as the designers for those women who want to belong to the group of trendsetters and they want to be seen as fashion-forward without succumbing to western culture.”
