The Fijian team aim to get as much exposure as they can before the 2017 International Cricket Council U19 World Cup qualifier in Samoa on July 9.

Cricket Fiji high performance manager Josefa Rika said preparations are on track.

“Our preparations are coming up well and we’ve been working on a young bunch of players for over two weeks and making sure things flow accordingly,” he said.

“We managed to get our players from schools all around Viti Levu. We’ve named our preliminary 18 while the final 14 players will be selected on July 9 as it gives us a lot of time to polish up. Our main challenge right now is getting the proper facilities and venue available for training which we hope to improve in the near future.

“I think everything has been good, we’re focused on developing the young bunch of players for the future and there is an average age of 16. The players are very inexperienced and this coming international tournament will be their first time for them. We obviously want to win and we are defending champions of this tournament and with we really have to be realistic with our goals.”
