The third National Women’s Expo 2017 ended on a high note yesterday at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.

Women from all four divisions as the expo ended the three-day event with singing, dancing and bidding farewell to other women participants.

Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa applauded the participants for their hard work and dedication towards the expo.

“Tonight, thanks to the grit and the determination of the women in Fiji, I am proud to say that the national women’s expo, with the theme ‘Be bold, be the change’ has been successful beyond anticipation,” Ms Vuniwaqa said.

“Ladies, you have been bold in taking this step to be economically empowered and I know that you will continue to be that positive change in your families, communities and the nation.”

The minister highlighted that in the 2016–2017 fiscal year, 1400 women artisans took part in 13 provincial craft shows and later 500 women were selected to take part at this year’s women’s expo.

“I wish to congratulate you on the marvellous exhibition that you put up for Fiji and her visitors in these three days,” she said.

“I applaud the designers who displayed their fashionable designs on the runway.”

The NWE began in 2014 with approximately 2000 women participanting.

This year 51 women artisans received licensing with the ‘Fijian Crafted’ certification with another 31 artisans receiving provincial licences.

A total of 475 women took part this year.
