Taniela Lorima’s new lease of life has made his mother plan a special birthday party for him next month.

Naina Likubua beamed with joy when her 2 years 11 months son was cleared following his successful heart surgery at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva.

Ms Likubua said that her baby boy would be celebrating his third birthday next month and the free surgery is a pre-birthday gift for him.

“This year his birthday will be a different one when he celebrates his third birthday July 8. I am so happy for him,” Ms Likubua said.

“This surgery just came at the right time. More importantly he need not go through the difficulties he has been through,” she said.

Little Taniela was diagnosed with a heart problem when he was a month old.

“It has been difficult for me as a mother, but now things will definitely change. I need not worry about his heart problem anymore,” she said.

She also thanked the Open Heart International team for their support and help.

“It would have been difficult for me to afford this surgery but all thanks to the team and Ministry of Health Fiji for this initiative.

“The team has also taught me how to look after my son after the surgery as well so I am really indebted to them.”

A total of 20 children went through similar surgeries as part of the group’s visit to Fiji with the youngest being two months old.

The other 15 were adults.

This is the 27th year the OHI team has been giving their service free to heart patients in Fiji.
